Privacy & Terms

Who we are
Peaceful Pairs is a communication and relationship-wellness tool. This page is our privacy policy together with a summary of our terms of use. We are the controller of your personal information. For any privacy question, or to exercise your rights, email peacefulpairsdev@gmail.com.
The short version
- We don't sell your conversations or personal information, and there are no ads or trackers anywhere in the app or on this site.
- To generate replies, every message you send is sent to our AI provider, Google (Gemini), on Google's paid API tier — under which Google does not use your conversations to train its models. Other users only see conversations they took part in, and your solo reflections are never shown to anyone else.
- You can delete your account anytime, and you can download a copy of your data from Settings. Note: messages you already sent into a shared conversation remain in the other person's copy.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address, your first and last name (your first name is shown to the other participant), and a securely hashed password (accounts created with Google or Apple sign-in have no password).
- Your conversations: the messages you send, the topic and relationship type, any private goal you set (never shown to the other person), and AI-generated summaries, titles, and agreements.
- Safety & support: a short yes/no safety check (we keep only a flag, not your answers) and any reports you submit about an AI message.
- Technical: your IP address is used briefly, in memory, only to limit abuse — it is never written to our database or linked to your account. We use only the strictly-necessary storage needed to keep you signed in; no analytics or advertising cookies.
Sensitive information and your consent
Conversations here can reveal sensitive details — about your relationships, sex life, health, or state of mind. Before the first conversation, we ask every participant (including anyone you invite) to confirm they're 18 or older, that their messages are sent to Google to generate replies and may include sensitive information, and that they agree to this policy. That confirmation is your explicit consent to process this information solely to provide the service. You can withdraw it at any time by deleting your account.
How your messages are processed, and who we share them with
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we never share it for advertising. To run the service we rely on a small set of providers, each acting on our behalf under their data-processing terms:
- Google (Gemini) generates the mediator's replies, on Google's paid API tier. Under that tier Google does not use your conversations to train or improve its models. Content may be processed transiently to detect abuse, which can include limited human review of material specifically flagged for safety, under Google's API terms.
- Supabase hosts our database (your account and conversations).
- Render hosts the service.
- Resend sends transactional email, such as password-reset codes.
Our database is further protected by row-level security that prevents any public API from reading your data.
Where your data is processed
Our providers are based primarily in the United States, so using Peaceful Pairs from outside the U.S. (including the EEA and UK) involves transferring your information to the U.S. Where required, we put appropriate safeguards in place for these transfers.
How long we keep your data
- Conversations are automatically deleted after 30 days of inactivity.
- Your account data is kept for as long as your account is open.
- When you delete your account, we permanently remove your account and private data (including solo reflections and saved summaries). Messages already delivered into another participant's copy remain with them.
- Reports you submit about an AI message are kept for up to 180 days to tune our safety systems, then deleted.
- Your IP address is held only in memory for rate-limiting and is never stored.
Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS), hashed passwords, strict database access controls, and row-level security that blocks any public API from reading your data. Today, conversation content is stored in our database without additional field-level encryption at rest; our system now supports turning on at-rest encryption of stored conversation content. No service can guarantee perfect security, so we minimize what we collect and keep only what we need.
Your rights and choices
- Access & export: download a copy of your data anytime from Settings → Your data → Export my data, or email us to request one.
- Delete: delete your account from Settings in the app, or from the web at peacefulpairs.com/delete-account. This permanently removes your account and private data. There is no per-message deletion, and account deletion does not remove messages already delivered into another participant's copy.
- Correct: ask us to correct or remove inaccurate information, including AI-generated summaries or agreements about you.
- You can also object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent (by deleting your account). EEA/UK users may complain to their local data protection authority; California residents may use an authorized agent and won't be treated differently for exercising these rights.
Email peacefulpairsdev@gmail.com to make a request; we verify it's you using the email on file and respond within 30 days.
AI-generated content
Pace, our AI mediator, writes replies, summaries, titles, and suggested agreements based on your conversation, and runs an automated safety check. These outputs can be wrong or incomplete, are not used to make any legally significant decision about you automatically, and you can ask us to correct or remove them.
Not therapy, not confidential in the legal sense
Peaceful Pairs is a communication and relationship-wellness tool. It is not therapy, counseling, or medical care, and the conversations are not legally privileged or HIPAA-protected. Please don't rely on it as a substitute for professional help. If you are in crisis, contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988) or your local emergency number. If you're dealing with an abusive situation, the National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1‑800‑799‑7233.
Children
Peaceful Pairs is for adults 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; if we learn we have, we'll delete it.
Legal requests
We may disclose information if we believe in good faith it is legally required (for example, a valid subpoena or court order) or necessary to protect someone's safety. Because conversation content is stored without field-level encryption, it could be produced in response to a valid legal request. Where we're permitted to, we'll tell you first.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change, we'll update the date above and notify you (by email or an in-app notice) before it takes effect. Continuing to use Peaceful Pairs after a change means you accept the updated policy.
